Spiced Turbinado Rich Syrup
Yields: Approx. 12-13 oz | Perfect for Old Fashioneds
Ingredients
- 10 oz (1 ¼ cups) Turbinado Sugar
- 5 oz (⅝ cup) Filtered Water
- 1 Large Cinnamon Stick (cracked in half)
- 3 to 4 Whole Cloves
- 1 tsp Vodka (added at the end for preservation)
Instructions
- Toast: Place the Turbinado sugar, cinnamon, and cloves in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir for about 60 seconds until the spices become fragrant.
- Dissolve: Pour in the filtered water. Stir constantly until the sugar crystals are completely dissolved. Do not bring to a rolling boil.
- Infuse: Remove from heat and let the mixture sit as it cools to room temperature. This allows the spices to steep.
- Preserve: Once the syrup is completely cool, stir in the teaspoon of vodka.
- Bottle: Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean 12 oz glass bottle to remove the cinnamon and cloves.
Storage Tip: Keep refrigerated. This rich 2:1 syrup will stay fresh and flavorful for up to 4 months. Pair it with your favorite Bourbon or Rye and an expressed orange peel.
