Orange Thyme Cordial
Yields: Approx. 12 oz | Bright, Zesty & Herbaceous
Ingredients
- 1 cup Granulated White Sugar
- ¾ cup Filtered Water
- 2 Large Oranges (Zest and Juice)
- 6–8 Fresh Thyme Sprigs
- ½ tsp Citric Acid (Optional for extra shelf-life and tang)
Instructions
- The Zest Muddle: Peel wide strips of zest from the oranges (avoiding the white pith). Combine zest and sugar in a bowl. Muddle well and let sit for 30 minutes to release the citrus oils.
- Dissolve: In a small saucepan, combine the water and the orange-sugar mixture. Stir over medium heat until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- The Infusion: Add the fresh thyme sprigs and the juice from your two oranges (about ½ cup). Bring to a very low simmer for 2 minutes.
- Steep & Cool: Remove from heat. Let it sit and steep for 30 minutes. Taste periodically; remove thyme earlier if the herbal note is strong enough for you.
- Strain & Store: Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean glass bottle. If using citric acid, stir it in now.
Usage: This cordial contains fresh juice, so keep it refrigerated and use within 2 weeks. It is perfect for upgrading a Gin & Tonic or simply mixed with sparkling water for a sophisticated soda.
